Designing Goose

Goose is a devised show, meaning the actors write the show in rehearsal. Therefore, I began designing months before any scripts were written. The goal was to create opportunities for play, and a world where many different stories could coexist.

My concept of the cardboard city feels both real and imagined, playful yet gritty. I utilized many different paper textures including corrugated cardboard, newspaper, and paper bags. I also used plastic roofing to mimic cardboard's corrugated texture on a super sized scale.

This show featured 30 short plays in 90 minutes so I also integrated clock and 30 removable numbers into the set.

In the background here, you can see I used the bottoms and handles of paper bags for the shingles and a scalloped awning.
